Desert Hearts
Bloc Party, White Stripes, Idlewild, Snow
Patrol, Breeders and Clap
Your Hands and Say Yeah are just some of the bands Belfast’s Desert Hearts
have shared a stage with.
Plan B Called them ’the bomb’.
Rock Sound gave the record 8/10.
Music Week made them a recommended choice two weeks out of three. How often does that happen?
Belfast’s Charlie Mooney, Roisin Stewart and Joe Duggan build their sound up and up before hammering it down. Intelligent lyrics and smarter structure keep you hooked, waiting for the next guitar lift or drum crash.
Robyn G Shiels
Born Kilrea, Northern Ireland. Living Belfast. Melancholic, poetic and haunting
singer/songwriter. Targets the dark noise at the back of your life and teases
it to the front.
Debut album 'A Lifetime of Midnights' released on No Dancing Records in 2005 had the reviewers reaching for the adjectives. In the words of Matt Dornan, Editor, Comes with a Smile:
"Unlike countless other releases that name check the likes of Will Oldham, Low and Red House Painters as musical references, this is a record that can withstand – and I’d argue surpass – those comparisons with ease."
Other reviews:
‘Beautifully bleak, but absolutely full of emotion. Amazingly, this is his debut release; words fail me.’ Mike Diver, Editor, Drowned in Sound
‘Our American friends are hip to the Appalachian sounds that we originally shipped out of Ulster, a few centuries back. And here’s Robyn, stealing it back.’ Stuart Bailie, Oh Yeah
Ladyfinger
Ladyfinger’s regular label is the mighty fine Saddle
Creek Records, but in spring /
summer 08 they’ll be releasing a split 7” with Dance
Me Pregnant on No Dancing.
Ladyfinger are a four-piece rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. Chris, Jamie, Pat and Ethan have been members of various bands before combining forces to create Ladyfinger.
Pat played formerly in Saddle Creek band Mayday, and was also part of a band called Solid Jackson. Ethan used to be in the Saddle Creek band The Faint. Jamie is the singer of yet another Omaha band, Race For Titles. Chris used to be in a rock band called Bleeders For Treats.
Their past musical endeavours shine through in their debut cd, Heavy Hands, released on the Saddle Creek recording label.
"A beautifully-layered mess of guitars, drums, and vocals make Ladyfinger a prime target for those with an ear for great rock music” - last.fm
Dance Me Pregnant
Possibly the best band name ever. Speed, aggression and heavy guitars are
the driving force for this Omaha band.
Jeff, Chris, John, Mark and Corey burn through nasty riffs and snapping snares. They’ll be releasing a split 7” on No Dancing in Spring 08 with fellow Americans Ladyfinger. Oh yeah!
